Due to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the conference will be held online.

KTU Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture has been organizing 2 international conferences – Advanced Construction (6 conferences) and Ecological Architecture (4 conferences). In 2020 we are joining these conferences and together with our partners and we would like to invite you to participate in the first international conference Advanced Construction and Architecture 2020.

ACA2020 will be developed together with 2 other University partners and will be focused on smart, green and efficient ideas, contributing towards UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Pathways to BIM Thinking: Preparing for the Digital Future of Construction

There seems to be a palpable excitement that the construction sector may finally see a major digital transformation with increasing maturity of complementary technologies such as integrated BIM, reality capture, wireless monitoring, field computing, internet of things, 3D printing, and so on. When several possibilities exist and when the industry is at the cross-roads, how do we proceed? To make an informed decision on the potential ways forward, this talk looks at fundamental principles and objectives that could be claimed to be inherent to BIM thinking!  Potential benefits of adopting a ‘BIM thinking’ approach as the way forward will be discussed with examples.

The role of building integrated solar technologies towards achieving smart and sustainable buildings

Solar technologies, passive and active, are an integral part of renewable energy applications, and have taken a significant share of new renewables installations in recent years. Particularly in the field of buildings, the integration of renewable energy technologies is a highly intelligent and technologically mature technology that can help achieve what we call smart buildings. This lecture includes a detailed presentation of solar energy technologies being utilized in the built environment, as well as the relevance of these technologies to the new European Commission requirements, for smart building readiness indicators. The lecture includes both case studies, presentation of physical principles as well as technological applications.

Digital maps as background for complex urban models

City map as its representation may enable and catalyze a number of various urban processes including city planning and management. Development of IT technologies and appearance of  integrated digital city maps create a background for revolutional changes in terms of grounded possibilities for predictive complex modelling which could be used by a big number of “city users” in various situations.  The K.I.S.S. principles of such models, their limits and possibilities, based on various examples, will be discussed during the presentation.

Technology of the high-performance sulphate binders

The presentation deals with the process and technologies involved in the production of high performance calcium sulphate binders. It summarizes current knowledge in this field and presents some interesting results in case of alpha-hemihydrate production.

Oral presentations:

  • The slides for oral presentations should be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 or compatible format.
  • The duration of the presentation should be 10 min.
  • 5 min. would be given for questions.

Graphical Abstract/ Poster requirements:

  • size: 16:9 resolution, single slide, landscape oriented,
  • text and illustration size should be clearly readable,
  • required content: presentation title, authors, main material (preferable in graphical format), key conclusions,
